PARIS: U.Southward. director Spike Lee has been named president of the jury for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival after final year's event, which Lee was ready to chair, was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2022 Cannes festival - ane of the motion picture industry's biggest events - was first postponed from May to the end of June, and then cancelled. In the end, organisers held a depression-key three-day issue in October showcasing a range of short films.
With COVID-19 notwithstanding raging in France, the festival has scheduled the 2022 edition for July 6-17 instead of in May equally usual.
"For 30 years, the indefatigable Spike Lee has raised the problems of his era...nosotros could non have hoped for a more than powerful personality to question these tumultuous times," Cannes Flick Festival President Pierre Lescure said in a statement.
The other members of the jury and the films selected for the plan will exist announced early June. The 74th Palme d'Or prize volition be presented on July 17.
Lee, 63, who made his name in the late 1980s with "She's Gotta Have It" and "Practice the Right Matter" won the Cannes Grand Prix in 2022 with "BlacKkKlansman".
The 2022 panel was headed by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
